Soviet 810th Training Air Regiment

in the eighties

At the end of the seventies, the Soviet MiG-21SM Fishbed-J tactical fighters were withdrawn from the first line. Some of them were transferred to 810th Training Air Regiment of the Kharkov Higher Military Aviation School. The 810th regiment replaced their MiG-21PF/FL Fishbed-D type to MiG-21SM Fishbed-J between the late seventies and early eighties.

The 810th Training Air Regiment was the biggest MiG-21SM operator in the eighties. They had six air squadron, each squadron used 20 - 30 MiG-21SM and MiG-21UM trainer aircraft. The MiG-21 trainer aircraft wore camouflage with yellow bort number in the eighties. In the eighties, the main task of the 810th air regiment was the training of fourth-grade young pilots.
 

At the end of the eighties, the intensity of the training decreased. The 810th regiment's two air squadron MiG-21SM Fishbed-J aircraft were handed over to the 812th Training Air Regiment. The 810th regiment only had 103 MiG-21SM and UM left by 1991.
