Yakovlev Yak-28R and Yak-28PP aircrafts of the 164th independent Guard Reconnaissance Air Regiment between 1973 and 1975

The 164th independent Guard Reconnaissance Air Regiment received the first Yak-28U Maestro training aircraft type in the middle of the sixties. The 2nd and 3rd air squadron of the 164th regiment used them as training aircraft besides the Yak-27R Mangrove.

The first Yak-28R Brewer-D type arrived to Brzeg airport in 1967. Previously they were at Lipetsk Training center where they took part in retaining in April 1967. The new Yak-28R Brewer-D type replaced the problematic Yak-27R Mangrove type between 1967 and 1968.

The third air squadron of the 164th guard regiment used mixed Yak-28R Brewer-D and old Il-28R Beagle type. The old type was replaced with the modern MiG-25RB Foxbat type in 1973. At the same time, the regiment also received Yak-28PP Brewer-E electronic countermeasures aircraft.
