National Air Force of Angola’s Su-27 Flanker
(Força Aérea Nacional de Angola)

Scant information is available about Angola’s Su-27s, which were purchased second-hand from Belarus in 1999. Seven single-seat Su-27 Flanker-Bs and one Su-27UB Flanker-C were acquired in 2000, with one Su-27 lost after a few weeks. That aircraft may have been piloted by Ukrainian pilot Igor Valenchenko.

The Angolan Flankers have at times been based at Catumbela airport, Lubango, but maintaining a constant state of readiness with such a small fleet severely limits its effectiveness. The Su-27S Flanker-B is equipped with a Phazotron N001 Zhuk mechanically-scanned radar, Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-301 30mm cannon and R-73 Archer and R-27 AA-10 Alamo medium-to-longrange missiles.
